The Menturnship Program (pronounced Men-Turn-Ship) is a  full service "HOLISTIC" Mentoring Organization.

 We have developed a strengths-based approach to working with our youth, that draws on positive psychology, development psychology, developmental epidemiology, prevention sciences and the theory of Multiple Intelligence.

The Menturnship program provides a safe environment where our youth can receive training, education, information and resources and the supervision necessary for a positive transition into Manhood. We liken our environment to one of an Authoritative Community, a community where our program staff can take an authoritative stance with our youth. Although we offer warmth, we do enforce clear boundaries; hold high, but realistic, expectations; and employ discipline techniques that rely primarily on rational discussion and explanation.

Just as authoritative parents interact with their children in an inclusive manner and provide flexible guidance with verbal give-and-take, staff in our programs will support and monitor, rather than try to control participants.

Decades of research indicate that authoritative care is much more effective than authoritarian, indulgent, or permissive approaches (Baumrind, 1978; maccoby & martin, 1983).
